General product frequently asked questions
How long has this Air Cleaner been around ?
The Aeriale Air Cleaner has been manufactured for over 15 years and used extensively in Canada, United States, Europe. It has been tested and used in many “clean room” applications, hospitals, doctors offices, office towers, restaurants, and casinos and is now being made available to clean the air that is most important to you – the air that you and your family breathe.
Why not buy one of the filters at my local hardware store?
Hardware store air cleaners are very ineffective at cleaning the air below 3 microns. Because sub-micron particles are themost damaging to our health, the units available at hardware stores are clearly not the effective choice. The Aeriale Air Cleaner has been proven to collect 97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns.
How do I establish the correct size for an A124 and Replacement Pads?
Simply slide your existing air duct paper filter out of the 1″ air filter track and you will find the size on the side of most common paper filters. If your filter is media only and does not show a size, measure the filter media.
Can I convert my old electronic ionized air cleaner, and install a High Efficiency Aeriale Air Cleaner?
Yes. The Aeriale Air Cleaner can fit right into where the two main cells are located. A ‘spacer’ will have to be installed so as to make the filter track only 1″ wide instead of 4″. This application should take a 20″ x 25″ or 16″ x 25″ filter, to check this, measure the size of the two cells side by side.
Is the Aeriale Air Cleaner expensive to install?
In most cases our A124 Air Cleaner will install in the same 1″ filter track that your existing filter is installed. In those cases where an odd size filter is currently installed it may require a filter track to be installed. The cost from most contractors for this filter track would be $ 50. The filter can be plugged into a standard power outlet or can be wired into the 24v system in your furnace or air handler.
Are the replacement media expensive?
It’s only about $4 per month to insure clean, fresh, safe, healthy air in your home year round. HEPA filter replacements by comparison, can cost several hundred dollars.
What maintenance is involved, and how often must it be done?
This varies by house but generally A media pad will last two to four months. We recommend replacing the media a minimum of 3 times per year. Simply turn off the power to your heating/cooling system, pull out the filter, open the hinges, install a new media pad and throw the old media away. We do also recommend you check your filter each month and if the screen appears dusty, turn the power off and dust off the face of the filter with a cloth, broom or hand vacuum.
How often should we operate the Air Cleaner?
We recommend, for maximum effectiveness of air filtration, that your thermostat be turned to the fan “on” positionrather than fan “auto”. This allows for continuous air filtration. This Air Cleaner will always work to keep the heating equipment clean when the fan comes on. In the intermediate heating and cooling seasons, your heating and air conditioning won’t come on very often therefore you won’t filter the air unless you keep the fan on. This takes only a small amount of electricity and makes for a significant difference in the air quality in your home. It will also reduce the amount of dusting that should be required around the home.
What is a "micron" ?
A micron is 1/25,000th of an inch. A human hair is approximately 150 microns. Indoor pollutants are generally below 0.3 microns. This is where a vast majority of the particles in the air are found. An increasing number of studies are finding these smaller particles to be a significant health hazard. Any asthma or allergy sufferer will tell you, what you don’t see does hurt you! To effectively clean air, the sub-micron particles must be removed. Aeriale Air Cleaners will remove up to 98% of these particles on a multiple pass basis. For example, after just ten hours of operation we were able to remove over 97% of the particles between 0.3 and 0.5 microns and 99% of the particles 0.5 microns or larger. And our efficiency actually increases as the filter pad loads with pollutants! This is why the Aeriale Air Cleaner is referred to as a high efficiency air cleaner.
Can I use any media?
This Air Cleaner will not work with standard media. We have a patented process for producing this filter media with anactivated charcoal center section that not only absorbs the odors but also conducts the electrical charge through the center of the media. Use of any other media will void warranty and may seriously damage the filter electronics.
I have an ionization type electronic air cleaner and noticed dust on my TV and computer screen. What causes this to happen?
The Aeriale Air Cleaner is unique and unlike any other filter you have used. It does not produce charged particles that cling to grounded surfaces in the house. Other “Ionizing” air cleaners positively charge all the particles in the air. In theory they will then collect particles to the negatively (or grounded) collector plates. The problem is when the plates become dirty (usually within only a couple of hours) the positively charged finer particles slip past the plates. These particles still carry a positive electrical charge and cling to grounded surfaces in the house such as TV screens or things metallic. Aeriale cleaners will not cling dust to your tv.
Does this filter create a 'snapping' sound, does it create ozone?
This Product does not produce harmful ozone. We use a unique patented non-ionizing filter that creates no poisonous ozone or ‘snapping’ noises (noises generated when unwanted ozone is being produced) when it is working. It works by assigning polarity to all the particles in the air as well as the special patented fiberglass media in the filter. The millions of particles themselves then act like small magnets inside the filter and they cling to each other then cling to the media in the filter. Just as paper clips on a magnet attract other paper clips, the dirt collected by these filters becomes part of the collecting surface, giving the filter increasing efficiency as it loads with contaminants removed from the air.
